Somehow when I was busy with other things, summer has morphed into fall. No frost yet here but days and evenings are definitely cooler and trees are beginning to color. It's lovely, but transitory. Colder days are coming.
And transitions abound. Later this week, we'll be heading back to Upper Michigan to bury the matriarch of my husband's family, the indomitable Aunt Tyyne Maki, born in Finland, who passed away last week at the grand age of 95. So very glad we got to see her one last time in early August. Meanwhile, some of our closest friends, a couple we've known since college, have bailed on this northern climate for Florida. Our Thanksgiving table will be smaller this year.
Life, and quilting, go on.
Friday evening I drove out into the deep country to pick up a quilt from the wonderful Creations by Marge. She has worked her magic on my scrappy Bricks and Stepping Stones
and all that remains is the binding. I got the binding made and sewn on in a fit of enthusiasm on Friday night.
And extra credit points to anyone who's been quilting long enough to remember the binding fabric:
Isn't this backing fabric great?
What a nice antique-y look it has... Bonus--there is some of it left to ride again in another quilt.
Now, all that remains is hand-sewing the binding to the backing, and attaching the label. And intrepid longarm quilter Marge even throws in a label!

I see many of the same fabrics in my stash! Go figure! ;o) I love this quilt! Can't wait to see it all done. Bummer on the friends moving to Florida. The hubs constantly speaks of leaving this cold climate...but...one teenager left who doesn't think it's such a great idea. Time will tell! Enjoy your week, Kathie!
Lovely quilt. Sorry your friends are moving away - they might not find Florida as great as some people think it will be. I have known several from our area thinking it would be great and after experiencing storms they decide Arkansas isn't so bad after all and move back! We do have all four seasons, just a long summer though and not near as cold of a winter as y'all get!

The quilt is gorgeous, Kath...love the colors, the prints are wonderful!
With spring/summer on the way in the Antipodes, knitting is about to wind down...I don't enjoy knitting with cotton, and that's mostly what you find in the yarn shops now. So, I may find myself back at the sewing machine soon...about time!
Born in Wisconsin, raised in Florida! Two summers ago I re-connected with my family roots in WI. I feel such a strong pull to move back, but the thought of winter in Wisconsin chills me to the bone!
Love the colors in the Bricks & Stepping Stones quilt. The binding is similar to a fabric I used in a Chimney Sweep quilt that was started in about 1988!
Just lovely Kathie, the fabrics are fabulous, as well as the quilting. Great to hear from you!

Lovely quilt - as yours always are! I really like the use of black and white.
Oh yes I do love that fun backing fabric!
I was thinking about you the other day as I ranted about the library here. I understand the need for taking a break from the blog thing though. Sorry about the friends bailing on you but just think about it as one more excuse to visit FL!
