Back from the Yoop
Upper Michigan--the Yoop--was fun. We spent the weekend at the very remote camp of one of Mr. Kathie's boyhood friends. The camp has no electricity but despite a minimum of modern conveniences, this was no rough hut. Everything inside was beautifully crafted with care and precision by the owner.
That's a shadowy Mr. Kathie with Maisie, above.
And the scent of the balsams and pines--you can buy balsam incense or candles, but it can never be quite the same as the real thing.
We did some boating, retracing the route of week-long camping trips Mr. Kathie and his friends did as kids. My question is "Where were your mothers when all this was going on?" But it was another world. (I've always said that Upper Michigan is a dose of alternate reality, especially in this instance.) Not many parents allow 12 year olds to do the Huck Finn thing alone anymore. It's hard for me to believe most moms ever let kids loose like that.
I came back here, dove in, and got busy.
A pair of socks is completed. Pictures to come. Another pair is begun. Pictures to come of that endeavor also.
And the Serendipity has languished unfinished since June.
Tonight I serged together the backing for the quilt. This is the first meaningful sewing I've done since July.
I took some advice from Quiltville's Bonnie and cut some yellow stash into blocks. And I included some leftovers from the Serendipity focus fabric.
Voila! Ready to layer and baste!
Then there's been the anal-retentive organizing. I have a new phone and spent a good deal of time setting it up and hand-entering all the phone numbers from the old phone.
And something compelled me to reorganize all my Bloglines alphabetically. This is made somewhat easier by the new Beta setup. Previously my feeds were grouped by category, but there were always blogs that defied categorizing and it drove me crazy. Now everything is strictly alphabetical.
Glad that's over and done with.
Our little Lucy has been ill, and kind of scarily so. She spent the weekend at a doggy spa nearby and seems to have come home with an infection of some sort, and a high fever. A visit to the vet and an antibiotic shot helped greatly and tonight she's just about back to her old bouncy self.
